LIVING YOUR WILL Part 2

“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion…” 2 Corinthians 9:11a

My wife and I created our living wills many years ago—that legal document describing how we want to die if it becomes necessary for someone to make the decision to pull the plug.  Because it is more about dying than living, a friend of mine once he thought it ought to be called a death will rather than a living will.

Imagine what might happen if we were to execute a more cheerful “living will” that we called our FIRST Will and Testament instead of LAST Will and Testament Rather than listing assets to be distributed to beneficiaries after we are gone, the FIRST Will and Testament is a powerful testament of how God has blessed and provided in so many ways, material and non-material, that we wish to generously invest and distribute to others, especially our family, NOW while we are still living.  It is a decision to bless others and as an expression of our thanksgiving to God.  Imagine how lives might be transformed as we humbly surrender our wills to the Master’s will in the use of every asset and gift He has given us!

Living your Will is not at all the same as having a living will.  Living your Will is really more about being a steward of God’s will.  We have been made rich is so many ways.  Now let us live generously and in so doing be rich towards God. (Lk. 12:21)

FANNING THE FLAME
Last week I invited you to join me on a 30-Day Spiritual Adventure in which we take up the challenge as grandparents, parents and older adults to ask God to show us how to spend, invest and distribute the assets He has placed in our care for the blessing and refreshment of others while we are still living.  If you haven’t joined the adventure, it’s not too late.  Send me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I’ll send you a 30-Day Spiritual Adventure Guide to help you make the most of this spiritual journey.  I hope some of you will also report back after our journey together and share what God has done in you and through you.
