I have heard the stories and descriptions of the struggles the grade school age children of today’s deployed military are facing, but to actually see it for myself at our Military Kids GrandCamp this summer was enlightening and stirred my soul. I really grew to love these kids, and some very amazing grandparents. For most, this was one of the few times they have ever been able to spend extensive, quality time with their grandkids, and I believe the long term benefits of such time will be transformational.

Truly, as Buck has said, this was one of the highlights of our lives!! Invitations were sent out in June (after getting go-ahead from all parents) to our six older grandchildren, ages 8 ½ to nearly 15, from three different states. Our version of GrandCamp was held in our own home here in Colorado.

“Grandma Elise, I want to go to that camp with you!”  I was surprised and thrilled to hear his announcement.  I had told my grandson, Jake, about Grand Camp when I was in Omaha in March for his birthday.  Grand Camp had sounded so great and I had only hoped against hope of ever going.  There were so many obstacles.
