STAND IN THE GAP

Christian Grandparenting Network has a passion to encourage and equip grandparents to pray for their grandchildren, and to challenge grandparents around the world to intentionally and regularly come together to pray, interceding for their grandchildren, children and communities.  Arlyn Lawrence writes in Pray! Magazine, “Intercession is one of the ways God designed for us to partner with Him in bringing His loving presence into our aching world.”1

That’s what CGN’s Grandparents@Prayer (G@P) intercessory prayer groups are all about.  G@P encourages grandparents to be prayer warriors through the personal discipline of intercessory prayer in the battle against the enemy.  Gathering together in small or large groups on a regular basis at a designated location, grandparents unite in prayer for approximately one hour of guided prayer and fellowship.

In Isaiah 58:6 we read that we can “loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke” in our world. One of the ways we can break these chains is by “standing in the gap” for our dear grandchildren.

Last year I approached the principal at the Christian school where my three granddaughters attend about starting a G@P intercessory group. Now a group of grandparents of students at Cor Deo Academy is meeting twice a month united in prayer for the chains of the enemy to be loosed and to break every yoke that tries to entangle the students and their families.

Principal, P. J. Hansen is pleased with the support the grandparents have shown for the school over the last year. He writes, “Cor Deo means ‘Heart for God’. Our desire here at Cor Deo Academy is to see students have a heart for God and apply His Word to every area of life. This is an impossible task because only God knows the heart. Praise God that with Him all things are possible. I am so thankful for the powerful support of the Grandparents@Prayer group because I know I am receiving supernatural help through prayer warriors. These committed grandparents bring me joy when I hear their prayers and concern for the school and for me. Let’s continue to pray for everyone connected with Cor Deo Academy. Pray that we all would understand what it means to be walking with Jesus day by day.”

It has been a special blessing for my husband and I to be a part of the Cor Deo Academy G@P group, seeing how the Lord is answering our prayers and changing lives with His Word.  If your grandchildren attend a Christian school, talk with the principal about starting a G@P intercessory group in that school.

We now have several G@P intercessory groups meeting in Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and England.  These groups gather in retirement centers, schools, churches and homes.  Some of the groups meet weekly, some twice a month or once a month—whatever the group desires.

I want to challenge you to ask God whom He would like you to ask to pray with you for each other’s grandchildren. Ask your friends, church Seniors group, neighbors, family members or whomever. If God is laying this on your heart, I will be happy to send you some helpful guidelines and resources to help you get started. Click here to fill our our contact form.

The legacy of a praying grandparent will live on forever.

My wife and I attended the recent CASA conference in Atlanta where we had the pleasure of meeting Cavin and attended his workshop there. We pastor a small church which was born about 9 years ago in a retirement community in Houston. We are very interested in starting a G@P group at our church. Please send us any information and resources available. Thanks and God bless you nad the work He has you doing.

We are very interested in forming a G@P ministry in our Bible based Methodist Church here in Bella Vista, AR. The congregation of our church is about 3/4 Grandparents, so we think there will be interest. We will be working on this starting next week.
