IMPRINT ANOTHER GENERATION

God blessed my husband and me with nine grandchildren ranging in age from seven to

twenty-eight years of age. For many years, I felt my prayers for them were too general because, as a long-distance grandmother, I was often unaware of what was gong on in their lives. I prayed that God would bless them, but ultimately, I grew frustrated.

However, after doing some research God has gave me a passion to pray intentionally for my grandchildren. God has given grandparents a sacred trust ? an opportunity to imprint another generation with the message of God’s faithfulness. A few years ago, He gave me an opportunity to share my passion with others by writing devotionals and prayer suggestions for Christian Grandparenting Network and becoming their National Prayer Coordinator, which has been such a blessing for me.

Now God has given me the privilege to share my passion with you by writing a book Grandparenting with a Purpose: Effective ways to Pray for your Grandchildren. I hope you will purchase a copy of Grandparenting with a Purpose. The book provides specific examples of how to pray using scriptures, praying for different life stages, and challenge you to pray intentionally for your grandchildren. You can order the book right here on this website.

Many people have commented how the book has challenged them and given them new ideas to pray for their grandchildren, giving them new in sights for their role of grandparenting. Several have commented that they are going to use the book as a study book for their Grandparents@Prayer group meetings.

Have you thought about praying together with other grandparents in a Grandparents@Prayer group? My husband and I were blessed at our G@P group this week as we joined with other grandparents to pray for our grandchildren. As I talk with grandparents, many have heavy concerns for their children and grandchildren. Paul writes in Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens.” Praying together with other grandparents will help to lighten the load. You can start a G@P group with asking only one or two grandparents to join you in prayer meeting weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly. Sign up for information on this website and I will send it to you immediately.

As grandparents, let’s pray intentionally and spiritually influence for our grandchildren. Then another generation will find favor with God and will effect their generation for the Him. Let’s pray for protection from the enemy because the world has many distractions to influence our grandchildren to leave their godly upbringing.

The greatest legacy we can give our grandchildren
is the gift of a praying grandparent.
Prayer
Dear Father, I want to thank you for my dear grandchildren.
Help me to fulfill the sacred trust that you have given me as a grandparent.
Give me a passion to pray intentionally for them to become godly men and women,
enjoying His presence and peace in their lives.
I pray that my life will reflect a Christ-like example, living in your will
so I will not stand in the way of my grandchildren
from experiencing Your grace and favor.
In Jesus’ name, Amen

Praying Scripture for our grandchildren
written by Kaye Swain - SandwichINK, February 07, 2011
Hi, Thanks for an interesting article. You make such great points. In addition to praying specifically for their needs, if we know them, I also love to pray for my children and my grandchildren by praying simple Scripture prayers for them. When I am praying Scripture, I know I'm praying according to God's will - one of the best gifts I can give to them. Thanks again for an interesting article.
