SWEET LAND OF
TOLERANCE
By Chuck Colson
6/26/2008
Have we been so taken in by our own culture that we have abandoned truth? Chuck Colson responds to a recent survey conducted by the Pew Forum which "found that Americans have a “non-dogmatic approach to faith.” In fact, 70 percent of Americans who claim affiliation to a religious body—including Christians—agreed that “many religions can lead to eternal life.” Nearly the same percentage said that “there’s more than one true way to interpret the teachings of my religion.”
Why Can’t I
Shake My Sins?
by Kevin A. Miller
Our founding fathers desired that we enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Good things! But, liberty uncontrolled can invariably lead to sin and loss of the abundant life God promised to those who believe. (John 10:10) If we have unresolved issues with sin in our lives, we will not behave in a manner that demonstrates to our grandchildren God’s values. In fact, the opposite would be true, we demonstrate the world’s values.
Children are the world’s best when it comes to mimicking what they see. Why would we want them to mimic the sin they observe in our lives? Kevin Miller gives us some good insight into the question of sin that just won’t go away.

Knowing
God Through the Year By J.I. Packer & Carolyn Nystrom / Inter-varsity Press Here is a one-year guide through one of our most treasured books: J.I. Packer's Knowing God. Each day you'll read a Scripture and a brief passage about the glory and joy of being in a relationship with God. An idea at the end of each day's reading will help you to respond to God in prayer and reflection. This could be the most significant book you will read in this year--or the next. |
The following two books provide resources that point toward building strong relationships and the potential of being able to laugh together even during difficult times.

Grandparents as Parents: A Survival Guide for Raising a Second Family By Sylvie de Toledo / Guilford Press Grandparents as Parents accurately conveys the themes that are the most central to grandparents who are raising grandchildren, but the names and identifying characteristics of most of the grandparents and grandchildren mentioned in the book have been changed in order to protect their privacy. Grandparents as Parents represents the work of two authors, yet it is written from one point of view. This book is designed as both a book and a manual. You can read it front to back, following the grandparent stories that span the chapters, or you can turn to whatever chapter addresses your immediate questions, without worrying about order. |

Host a CGN seminar or Grand Camp informational session at your church, and let us show you how CGN can enrich the spiritual life of your entire church family. Contact us for details.
Christian Grandparenting Network is committed to helping your church reconnect grandparents with the youngest generation. Part of that commitment is sending speakers to you to conduct seminars aimed at strengthening, encouraging, and challenging mature adults towards a more purposeful life as a grandparent and "elder" in the community.
There are four of these "Fanning the Flame" seminars in our program. Each section may be taught as a single unit through your Sunday School or church. Alternatively, all four seminars can be joined together into a Friday night/all-day Saturday seminar program. The four sections are:
Section 1: Fanning the Flame of Purpose
Section 2: Fanning the Flame of Wisdom
Section 3: Fanning the Flame of Blessing
Section 4: Fanning the Flame of Service
Seminars are offered at no cost to your church; we do charge airfare plus expenses for travel and per diem expenses for the CGN speaker who will come to your location. We welcome you to contact us for more information or to schedule a seminar at your location!
