The Unblessed Generation: Failure Notice-Undeliverable

“After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done…” Judges 2:10

I’m sure you’ve received those messages from returned emails saying: “Failure Notice – Unable to deliver your message.  This is a permanent error.”  Something has prevented the delivery of your message to another recipient.  There can be any number of causes, but the same result – an undelivered message.

Something like that happened after Joshua and that generation of leaders died who had taken the Promised Land.  Somehow, the next generation failed to get the message resulting in a generation steeped in wickedness, idolatry and the loss of God’s protection and blessing.

Could we be seeing history repeat itself today?  Considering the paganism and shallowness of today’s culture, it is not difficult to conclude that God and His Word have little value in this culture.  The loss of a moral compass and the devaluing of life has come with a huge price tag – life devoid of hope and meaning.  A new generation is growing up without the blessing of hope, purpose and contentment, and instead, live in a world filled with cursing and lies.  Millions of our children and grandchildren merely exist as the unblessed generation.

Over the next several weeks, we will explore some factors contributing to the making of this unblessed generation.  We will also explore how today’s grandparents can become powerful conduits of God’s transforming grace to turn an unblessed generation into a blessed generation full of joy, hope and purpose.

FANNING THE FLAME
The power of blessing is incalculable.  Remember that you may be the only source of personal blessing that your grandchildren, or other children of their generation, will ever know.  It is time for our generation to be on our knees seeking God’s wisdom for how we can be effective, intentional conduits of blessing for this generation.

GRANDPAUSE: “He loved to pronounce a curse, and it has come on him; he found no pleasure in blessing, and it is far from him.  He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil.”
Psalm 109:17-18
